Scent Wicks
Postby jgaworecki » Today, 15:42
Can you re-use a scent wick? Meaning after you apply say doe in heat to a wick, can you just use that same wick day after day when hunting. Not looking for opinions on this question, but would like supporting technical data as why you can or cannot re-use wicks. Do scents spoil after a period of time exposed to air? Thanks,

Here at the Blackhole Institute for Whitetail Studies, my colleagues and I have been studying just that very question. After years of painstaking research, we have concluded that you’re taking this WAAAAAAY too seriously. I used the same scent drag for a decade without degraded performance. Ditto on the cottonballs I used. Multiple uses are not a problem.
Also remember that, if you ask the vendors of these scent wicks, they’ll tell you they need to be changed out regularly. They have a vested interest in you buying scent wicks. You are falsely assuming they do anything resembling any scientific testing or would let you know what those test results are if it did not have you buying more scent wicks. If you would what they tell you, I have an anti-telepathy hat and a box of cover scent chewing gum to sell you.
. . . NO! Wait! I really do have the hat and gum. Send me $19.95 and I’ll send you a hat and I’ll throw in a case of gum. The gum didn’t sell well, especially the skunk urine flavor.
Here’s a fantastic idea: buy a bag of cosmetic cotton pads, the little waffly ones your wife uses to take off make-up. A lifetime supply may set you back $3. Use once, and then put them under a rock on your way out. I used to use those or cotton balls in a 35mm film can. Either one works fine.
You want more advice? Try peeing off your stand mid-morning. It always brings deer in for me. I don’t know if it’s the scent or the noise (sounds like acorns falling). Every time I leak off the stand I get busted, how about you? Turn it around. Use it to your advantage. I tried it this year and had 6 doe under my stand within 5 minutes.
