Hunting in a Hurricane — Yute Season, 2026
It turned out not to be as bad as it could have been. Mooselette and I went out for Yute Season yesterday. Hurricane Isaias, pushed north out of the Gulf yesterday, and the outer bands started licking the farm. However, we were able to get in a perfect morning hunt at Hollywood– perfect in every way, including completely free of deer.
Just a couple of days before, the forecast had seemed dire. A wind front would hit late afternoon on Saturday, followed by a band of rain. Thunderstorms would move in overnight followed by steady rain all day Sunday. Our plan was to hunt the morning, and then retire to the comfort of the luxury blind at Midway before the rain really cranked up. Sunday’s hunt, should it need it, could be conducted from the comfort of the new front porch.
About 1000, it started getting breezy, and the air grew thick. We hadn’t seen anything, and decided to go in. As we were getting out of the truck, back in the driveway, I looked out to the south and saw an ominous darkening. The forecast was accelerating.
I pulled a couple shots with my muzzleloader from the porch. Early ML season is next weekend. After that, I could see Mooselette’s yearning for a deer start to wane. We decided to pack up and head back early. I was on my way to the AA Highway when a windblown dash of rain hit the windshield. Yep, it was time to go home.
What actually happened was far less consequential.

Thanks for the report. I wondered what it would be like when it hit. I guess about like any wind blown storm. This far away we haven’t had any rain from the storm effect. NW in the state of misery it hasn’t given us any rain yet. Good luck in the regular season and Be well Brother.
