I went back down to Turkey Camp yesterday. I had several projects that needed work, and I wanted to get out and listen to the turkeys. First off, let me describe yesterday morning’s scouting trip. Starting at 20 minutes before sunrise, a large flock started going off near the Honey … Continue reading →
This is the earliest I’ve tried to return to camp in 20-some seasons. A good deal of it is because I’m retired now. In the past, I had to wait until the weekends. Last year, I was still feeling the chemo and had to wait until someone else could go … Continue reading →
Yikes. I went to visit here early in the week, just checking in. I’ve invested 19 years and 4 months into this booger, and it contains the sum total of not only the bulk of what I’ve written about the outdoors, but the details of every hunt we’ve had at … Continue reading →
Two years ago, I got a Hornady Auto-Charge from Natchezss.com. At the time, I likened the transaction to dragging a topwater lure over a largemouth bass repeatedly. After repeatedly presenting it the bass, the fish strikes just because he’s sick and tired of seeing it. The question I want to … Continue reading →
It just turned over 90 days until the Spring Gobbler Opener in Kentucky. It is 12F and the wind is gusting to 24 MPH. Believe me, today is not the day to start scouting. So when? It all depends. Scouting New Property My big question is how much pain is … Continue reading →
After a once-a-decade event of eating tag soup, the question comes up about what to do? Angus and I have already had this talk. My advice was to wait. I’ve been through this before, and it usually works itself out by the next season. This year is appearing more and … Continue reading →
I’m not one of those guys who dreams of turkey hunting all year. By the time mid-May comes around, I’m pretty well done with the whole thing. Don’t get me wrong; I love turkey hunting. It is just such a frustrating and humbling process that I get tired of getting … Continue reading →
This story really starts back in Regan’s first term. I got into shooting shortly after college. My main focus was hunting, but I also enjoyed plinking. To that end, my buddy Jerry offered me a 3-screw Ruger Blackhawk in 357 Mag. I went through gobs of 38 Special ammo with … Continue reading →

The title really says it all. It has been quite a while since I ate tag soup at Deer Camp. Not only did I not hit anything, I went through Early Muzzleloader and all of Rifle Season not drawing a bead on a single deer. Angus pretty much had the … Continue reading →
We decided to pull out after the Sunday morning hunt. This was after originally planning to hunt up until the rain hit on Tuesday. SuperCore had a doe. Moose had his monster that’s filling the freezer and then some. That left Angus and I eating tag soup, and there was … Continue reading →
I suppose an apology is in order. This has been a hard season for me. When things go right, I’ve usually gotten some meat on the pole by now and had a chance to relax a bit and get a couple of posts out. Either that, or the weather has … Continue reading →

The migration team at BlueHost seems to have cleaned up all the trouble left over from the move from FatCow. The site itself was moved two weeks ago. The problem was I could not make posts or add pics due to various problems encountered in the migration. Please take some … Continue reading →
After over a decade with FatCow as my web host, I am in the process of packing up and moving to its parent company BlueHost. The reasons for this move are better performance and fewer outages. The net result for you guys will be good, but there is going to … Continue reading →
I was preparing to write a report on this past weekend, and I looked up in the left corner and saw this post from last year. It’s not like that’s exactly what happened. Some of it, like the sighting-in of deer rifles, happened last weekend. We are planning to put … Continue reading →

One of our camp’s most productive hunting venues is Jagendehütte, the hunting shed. It is the favorite haunt of our senior member, SuperCore. He spends most of rifle season in the shed and has pulled some of the camp’s biggest bucks out of there. It is also one of the … Continue reading →
