Wash, Rinse, Repeat
I was preparing to write a report on this past weekend, and I looked up in the left corner and saw this post from last year.
It’s not like that’s exactly what happened. Some of it, like the sighting-in of deer rifles, happened last weekend. We are planning to put up the blinds next weekend. Still, it is a little spooky to see yourself running down the same path.
This was not how it seemed at all as it was going on. Friday was a real thunderclap of a day– quite literally. The architects emailed us a proposal for the new additions, and I was going over them with the ‘HillChick on the phone when an explosion rocked the house and the power went out. The short of it is the transformer behind the dairy barn exploded and blew a fuse at the other end of the road. Blue Grass Energy was out with a truck in about an hour.
When that was over, we all gathered at the Thoughtful Spot to watch the Harvest Moon rise over Gobbler’s Knob. It suddenly occurred to me that I was happy for the first time in a couple of months. Losing Mom had me really wrenched out of shape. I can see that now, but it was hard to recognize at the time. Watching the moon rise with a beaker of scotch in my hand in the first full flower of autumn coming to the trees will do that to you. Blacksmith showed up for dinner. We’ve been missing each other for a while; he’s either been up in Ohio with family or I’ve been held up in Cincinnati. It was really good to be on the same ridge with him again.
Mooselette had her 20 Gauge out with Daddy Moose for some squirrel hunting down Hootin’ Holler. She then had another round of shooting from the bench with her Savage 340 in 30-30 to get ready for the upcoming Yute Season. She’s pumped. This year, she says she will take whatever comes.
