We lost Mom
My mother died on Saturday. She was 96. She has been in Assisted Living for 12 years since Dad died. I’ve been visiting her nearly every day.
When we got the farm, the original idea was that I’d be down on the weekend with the kids and she and Dad would come out during the week. Don’t get me wrong, Dad loved the farm, but he was happy to sit up on the porch and look out over his domain. Mom had a special love for the place and liked to go on tours in the truck. She also loved it when I would take her for long rides around the county on the back roads.
Mom grew up the daughter of a consulting engineer. I think she was something like 12 schools over 9 years or something like that. Her life was a series of rustbelt industrial towns, but she always had a soft spot for coming back to Cleveland and Brecksville, Ohio where her family was, and loved clean air of the family farm.
She worked as a primary school teacher for over a decade, and took an active part in rearing my 3 sons. They’re all really broken up over her passing. Moose was with her when she breathed her last.
