I don’t know if y’all have caught on, but we have been seeing an overall reduction in deer numbers during the past several seasons. I was talking with my neighbor last year and blamed him fully for it– but in the nicest way possible. You see, he moved in a … Continue reading →

I’ve never fully written down the experience of acquiring the rifle from O.T. I probably should have while it was still fresh. The details fade over time. What I can say now is that the trip was easily the most poignant experience I’ve had in 40-some years of hunting. I’d … Continue reading →
It was a busy weekend for us on a lot of fronts. First off, Supercore decided to donate his ATV to camp. He’s still coming out for season, but he wanted to get the ATV out of his garage. It’s a 2016 Arctic Cat Alterra 450. It will become a … Continue reading →
From 24HourCampfire.Com Here is my answer: Back when I was bow hunting, I tried to be in my stand an hour before first light. That was waaaay too early, but I was schlepping in a climber and doing the ascent. I wanted as much time for the woods to settle … Continue reading →

We finished up the season Sunday. The Shamanic Dream Team took 6 deer, tying the previous camp record. Overall, action was light. Moose and I reconvened on Friday afternoon. We still had doe tags to fill. He went to Jagende Hutte. I went back out to Midway. For me, it was a typical mid-season boregasm in a cloudy gloom. For Moose, it was something else entirely. All I can say is that … Continue reading →

For the most part, Muzzleloader 2024 went according to plan. Over the past 2 decades, it has become apparent that there are few deer contacts that weekend. For whatever reason, the deer are mostly absent. For us, the third weekend in October has become a dry run. We all turn … Continue reading →

This question got sent to me via Quora: I hunt whitetail deer. I’ve been doing it for more than 40 years. I’ve got a whole battery of rifles that will take deer. Most of them carry a Bushnell 3–9X40mm scope. Some have 4–12X40mm. These are all fairly plain scopes with … Continue reading →
