T-Minus 4 Weeks and Counting
The Shamanic Dream Team converged on Turkey Camp yesterday as the clock ticked towards one month before the opening of KY Spring Gobbler Season. We had a lot of ground to cover.
First off, we had to officially inaugurate the Kip LeBlond Memorial Grill. Kip and I were best hunting buddies back in the 80’s and 90’s. We had a lot of good times together before we went our separate ways. Kip died a while back while duck hunting in Arkansas. His widow donated Kip’s monster Charbroil Commercial Grill to us. Moose and Angus brought it down to the farm. We had an inaugural feast of ribeyes Friday night.
Saturday Morning saw the Mooselette and I braving the cold and wind and marching out towards S-10 to listen to the turkeys. It’s gotten to be a regular thing now with Grandpa and Honorable #1 Granddaughter getting up to watch sunrises together. There was a gobbler down in Dead Skunk Hollow that gave us a couple of hearty gobbles, but most of the action was too far off to get a good recording.
The big action of the weekend was Moose dropping by the taxidermist’s place to pick up his mount from the previous season. William Feltner of Wildlife Creations did a superb job on Moose’s 2019 buck. This is Moose’s first deer after a decade-long drought due to work and family.
Mooselette also got to try out her new telescope, a birthday gift from her grandma. Junior got to shake out his new binoculars.

Like the new site. Hope you are doing well. I finally came up for air. We are settled in for a long few months at home with stores for probably two months. I have been writing, got two new chapters that are still a little fresh, but it has been more thinking and reading about than getting words down.
