#3 son, Angus, heard me being effusive regarding Remnar’s choice of head gear and decided that I needed one of my own. Remnar showed up to deer camp the first year with an Original Stormy Kromer in Hunter Orange. I’ve always admired the hat. This year, Angus bought me one for Christmas.

There are a lot of great things about this hat. For one thing, it is ridiculously warm. I quickly overheated wearing it in the living room on Christmas, and had to take it off. Second is that it comes in a wide range of sizes. Mine in a 7 7/8″ Yeah, I have a monstrously large head; it’s a genetics thing. My grandpa was saved from the trenches of WWI, because his head was too big to fit a gas mask. Third, the hat is an absolute classic. Yeah, it is an Elmer Fudd hat, but Elmer knew what he was doing. Folks who knock the hat do not understand it. I am also a lifetime eyeglass wearer; that baseball cap brim keeps the rain off the glasses. You can find the Stormy Kromer here: StormyKromer.com

Not everyone is going to be down with paying $45 for a hat. I want to mention a poor man’s alternative:

They’re currently on Sportman’s Guide.com 2 for $20 bucks. These are incredibly warm; I’ve been using them for over a decade for early season turkey hunting.
