A New Stormy Kromer
I turned 64 over the weekend. The whole tribe dropped over to wish me well. My favorite present had to be the new Stormy Kromer that Angus gave me. It’s Hunter Orange.
This is my second Stormy Kromer. It all started a couple of years ago when I was getting Remnar set up for his first hunt. I told him he needed to pay attention to his headwear. He showed up at camp with a Stormy Kromer, and I thought it was an awesome hat. Angus bought me one for Christmas. I’ve been loving it.

If you are up above the 45th parallel in either Michigan, Wisconsin, or Minnesota, this is considered high fashion. I’ve been wearing the one Angus got me for Christmas all day every day since Chemo started in May. All my hair fell out, and I needed some way of keeping my head warm. The Stormy Kromer was perfect. I’m always getting compliments on it.
It is a real step up in warmth from a baseball cap. It has functional ear flaps, and a cotton flannel lining. I don’t know when my hair is growing back, but until then my Stormy Kromer is going is a serviceable replacement.
The Original Stormy Kromer Cap
For me, the Stormy Kromer is a bit light for the coldest mornings on the stand. That is only because I’m sitting for hours and really need to conserve heat. If I were up pussy-footing through the cedar thickets, it would be ideal. This new Hunter Orange hat will be my first choice for afternoon trips out to the blind as well as those runs into town.
