Yesterday, was the 2025 KY Spring Turkey Opener. I was out at the Honey Hole expecting a moderate sort of day at the Honey Hole. I’d call at some birds. I might get an answer. I’d get bored, take a nap and go in. It did not happen.
It started off quiet enough. I only heard a few gobbles far off. In fact, I turned off the recorder with hopes of maybe hearing something later. A few minutes before sunrise, I heard a gobbler way the heck off. He sounded like he was in bottom of Left Leg Creeek, a good 400 yards off. It took a while for me to figure out he was moving towards me. He came through the field south of the Midway blind. As he neared the blind, about 200 yards from the Honey Hole, He broke into a run. I just had time to turn the recorder back on and get my shotgun up. He was still coming for me when I nailed him about 10 yards out.
He went 21.5 lbs with a 9.5″ beard and 3/4″ spurs. He made for a good start to the season.
