Angus Bags a Gobbler on the Opener
Angus was out at the blind at Blackberry this AM for the Opener of the 2026 Spring Gobbler Season. Just before 0800, a gobbler started to respond to his new Quaker Boy Easy Yelper. In the minutes it took him to run down from the opposing ridge, a doe and a hen both visited Angus’ decoy, which was blowing about in the stiff breeze. Both got spooked and ran off.
However, the gobbler saw the deke moving in the wind and thought it looked inviting. He closed within 30 yards of the blind before Angus dropped the hammer. The bird went over and never got back up.
The bird went 22 lbs. He had a 10 inch beard and 1 1/8″ spurs.
The rest of us heard gobblers at flydown, but they stayed henned up. Both Moose and I had hens come in. They seem interested in the clover plots we laid down last fall.

Sounds like a good time was had by all, except the bird. Be Well Brother.
