Happy New Year
There is a lot going on despite Deer Camp being closed for close to a month. Believe me, I miss it. Turkey Camp will not open up until nearly March. I just started the countdown to the start of season– 14 weeks. Yikes! Y’all have been very busy. This humble weblog will close out the year setting records for readership every month since April. In fact visits to this site has more than doubled since April, and April was an all-time record. I appreciate your appreciation.
Looking back on it, the stats show that y’all really responded to a thing I added back over last winter called YARPP. YARRP stand for “Yet Another Related Post Plugin.” It is the little dohinkus that puts suggested reading at the bottom of every article. Right after I installed that, I saw you reading twice as many pages per visit. With 10 years of stuff to look at, y’all just need a little nudge to get you to dig deeper. I also see a steady increase in the number of returning visitors.
Google sends tens of thousands of people my way. Most are quietly saying to themselves “WT. . . ?” by the time they get through a paragraph or two, but then most folks . . . I’m sure I’ve told you this, but an article I wrote from back in 2007 gets a massive number of hits from Japan every Thanksgiving. I got to love that.
Well you first have to get underneath the gobbler, this is usually done by first pushing his
head down with your left hand and then bringing the tail up with the right. Put the neck
firmly under your left boot. Use the pressure of your boot on his neck to encourage compliance. Now take the thermometer, well lubricated with Vaseline and place it. . .. . . by the way, watch out for the spurs. They’re nasty.
What was I saying? Oh, yeah. With all the folks search engines send me, it is hard to see anything that would indicate anyone really likes my stuff. Your average Google user comes here, spends about 10 seconds and then goes away and never comes back. However, anyone who has read this far down in an article? On average, you stay and read just over two and a half pages of stuff, and a growing number of you are coming back for more later– about twice what it was a year ago. For each one of you, I would like to reach out and shake your hand.
The post crawlers are back. I had to do away with them for a while– new release of WordPress back in the fall kind of put a kink in the 7Feeds widget that was driving them. Anyhow, they are back, and I have devoted one of them to the articles you all see to like the most. I hope you like the changes.
Which brings me to another point: Y’all are still not talking back. I know y’all are out there. I know you enjoy the site. I just wish you would say something– send comments, send email. Click on the Ask-the-Shaman button up at the top.
Maybe Facebook is the way to go. We’ll try Facebook. I had to take off the Facebook “Like” buttons off when I was working for the Power Company, otherwise my pages were blocked. However, the like buttons are back. Please like my posts, like my site, visit the Facebook page, write on the walls– Have fun.
One thing I know is popular is the podcasts. I ordered up some new equipment that will be showing up in the next week or so. I will try to start having more and better podcasts in the coming year. Right now, they are limited to my adventures in Turkey Season. If you would like to hear more, let me know. Send me suggestions.
Happy New Year!
