The Tower at Hollywood 4 (1)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on September 6, 2017 by shamanJuly 24, 2020

Over the past few weekends, we’ve been working on new stands. One of them, was far enough along that I trucked it out to its new position. Hollywood is a tower blind built with the Elevators bracket system. I’ve had these brackets for almost a decade. They were originally meant … Continue reading →

Deer Camp — Maintenance Weekend 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on August 9, 2017 by shamanAugust 10, 2017

I’ve been busy since July. However, I did not have all that much to show for it. Finally, I’ve got something meaningful to report. This weekend was the first of a series of maintenance weekends at Camp. Some of it was long overdue. The first project was the Jagende hutte. … Continue reading →

Deer Camp 2016 Officially Opens 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on November 11, 2016 by shamanAugust 3, 2021 2

As the  patriarch of the Hole in The End of the Stump  Deer Camp, I officially declare this camp open.  Let all Cervids be warned. He that outlives this day and comes safe home will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam’d, and point a finger at his mounted … Continue reading →

The Shamanic Rig, a new holster idea 5 (2)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on February 27, 2016 by shamanFebruary 27, 2022 1

A couple of years ago I got word that the coyotes in our neighborhood had gotten bolder and potentially more dangerous. One actually made a pass at a neighbor, as he walked between sheds in his immediate curtilage. In response, I issued a new standing order that our folks would … Continue reading →

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on November 29, 2015 by shamanAugust 3, 2021

0630 ET Although it is still dark, it in a little while it will be light enough to hunt. I still have a tag. The end of the season is over ten hours away. Why am I back in town? Why are the rifles already back on the rack? … Continue reading →

Pre-Season Scouting with Google Earth 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on August 4, 2015 by shamanJuly 26, 2021

It is not every day I get to break serious new ground in deer hunting, but I have found something with Google Earth that I simply must tell. I have been able to find actual deer trails and deer bedding areas on Google Earth. It is not easy, but it … Continue reading →

Life with O.P. 5 (1)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on December 17, 2014 by shamanDecember 3, 2020

Of course you know about my buddy O.T., the old turkey hunter that runs the mower shop and his brother O.D. the expert deer hunter that holds court at the store in Browningsville. The brother I met first, however, was O.P. , the baby of the bunch. O.P. has a trailer … Continue reading →

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on October 16, 2014 by shamanJuly 30, 2021 2

I tell everyone that my place is in Neave, Kentucky, but I’m really closer to Browningsville. It is just that no one ever heard of Browningsville, Kentucky. Neave? Neave is the reason my zipcode reads Falmouth, which is way the heck over in another county instead of Brooksville, the county … Continue reading →

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on August 16, 2014 by shamanAugust 16, 2021

At our camp, we have no particular standards. This is the first year we will all be adults– my youngest turned 16. I think it is rather goofy to have kids passing on less than ideal deer unless they choose to do so. I know there is a lot of … Continue reading →

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on June 12, 2014 by shamanOctober 21, 2024

I forget now which gooey Portuguese writer once opined that, when visiting a place, one leaves a part of oneself there. When returning, therefore, we are not just revisiting a location, but rediscovering a bit of ourselves as well. If that is true, I wonder what to make out of … Continue reading →

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on March 9, 2014 by shamanApril 23, 2021

Know Thy Game, Know Thyself 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on February 17, 2011 by shamanFebruary 17, 2022

Everyone goes at turkey hunting a little different. One guy wants to take a gobbler only if he has called it into him. Another guy only wants to do it with his grand-daddy’s side by side. Another fellow only feels right if he’s spent $500 on ammunition and is wearing the latest camo pattern– vest and boots matching. Another guy only wants to saddle up his bird and ride it back to camp singing “John Brown’s Body.” We all look at this sport differently.

I’d hunted over 20 years and never heard of Blue Tongue. There was a touch of it a couple of counties over back in 2002; we heard about it when I took #2 son to Hunter Ed. It sounded icky. We were told if we saw an emaciated or dead … Continue reading →

Genesis 9:2-4

2 The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every bird of the air, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea; into your hand they are delivered. 3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you; and as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything. 4 Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.
