Elk Jitters have me bad II 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on August 19, 2006 by shamanJuly 28, 2021

“Drat! ” said the shaman. He had not been drawn– another year without a chance to hunt a KY elk in the zone. He reached over and picks up his elk lottery entry. It had somehow magically turned into an out-of-zone deer tag. Any elk coming on the property could … Continue reading →

Elk Jitters have me bad 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on August 18, 2006 by shamanJuly 28, 2021

l so . . . stupid writing this, but then I write a lot of stupid things on here. Nobody ever seems to mind—except the ones that take me seriously, and those folks are the ones I particularly enjoy. I’m not usually one to worry about a lottery. I know … Continue reading →

Deer Season is Over 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on December 16, 2005 by shamanMay 19, 2023

The buck I shot on Opening Day was ready at the processor. Angus and I showed up around noontime Saturday to pick it up. The guy at Meyers in Lennoxburg went into the freezer and came out tray after tray of frozen wrapped venison. It was a LOT of dead … Continue reading →

A Non-Resident Response 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on November 16, 2005 by shamanOctober 12, 2021

From the Kentucky Hunting Forums (The issues were: 1) Should KY limit non-resident deer hunting 2) Is non-resident deer hunting effecting small game hunting 3) Should private land be opened to public hunting) Here is my response: You missed a couple of points on comparing this to the Europeans. Take … Continue reading →

Some Twenty Years Gone 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on October 30, 2005 by shamanAugust 2, 2021 1

This does not have a whole lot to do with deer hunting, but then again it has everything to do with deer hunting. This story has a long set-up too, but then it took twenty years to get to the punchline. Saturday Night was atypical from the start. We stopped … Continue reading →

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on October 17, 2005 by shamanAugust 2, 2021

Mooseboy was not feeling well Saturday morning, so I sent him back to bed, before heading out to my stand. He mentioned a stomach ache. By 0830, he had recovered his health and joined me. In the meantime, I was treated to great show. A doe we had been encountering … Continue reading →

To Bait, Or Not to Bait 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on October 17, 2005 by shamanOctober 12, 2021

This time of year, everyone seems to get their drawers knotted up over whether it’s okay to bait for whitetail deer. Some say it’s not Fair Chase. Some folks say it’s okay. One of the things that’s missing here is whether or not hunting over bait is even all that … Continue reading →

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on July 3, 2005 by shamanAugust 2, 2024 2

It’s been several years now, and I have to say that I am so glad I took this up. What we are doing is trying our hand at acorn farming. See, we have acres and acres of white oak with tons and tons of acorns just lying on the ground. … Continue reading →

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on May 3, 2005 by shamanJanuary 26, 2025

From 24hourcampfire.com If someone handed me $6500 to go hunt deer, I think I’d see if they’d let me use it for Moose, either in Eastern or Mid-Western Canada. If I had to stick to whitetail, I would be asking you guys for suggestions. I’m with RonT on what he … Continue reading →

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on November 24, 2004 by shamanAugust 4, 2021 3

There is a debate over at KentuckyHunting.net over whether armed trespass should be a felony in Kentucky. For the way my brothers in the Commonwealth react to poaching, I’m surprised the state kept it a hanging offense. As it stands right now, getting caught trespassing/poaching will get you a sizeable … Continue reading →

Elk, and Rumors of Elk 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on November 22, 2004 by shamanAugust 4, 2021 1

I’m waiting for confirmation of this in the papers, but I heard a 6×6 bull elk was seen near the corner of SR 10 and SR 22 in Bracken County, heading for Brooksville. He was toes-up in the back of a pickup, the head and antlers were hanging over the … Continue reading →

The Stuff of Dreams 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on September 13, 2004 by shamanJuly 29, 2021

Don’t Say My Kid Can’t Shoot . . . 5 (1)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on December 31, 2003 by shamanAugust 4, 2021

The Savage Spoke and the Monarch of the Forest Fell 5 (11)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on November 11, 2003 by shamanDecember 29, 2025 6

He froze. My right eye was blinded in the muzzle flash through the scope, but my left could follow him as he leapt once and then turned towards the bottom of the gully. I heard three bounds, a crash of brush, and then silence. It was 0650 on opening day. Twenty years of work had come to fruition, and a great buck had finally fallen to my hand.

Genesis 9:2-4

2 The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every bird of the air, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea; into your hand they are delivered. 3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you; and as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything. 4 Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.
