Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on November 24, 2011 by shamanMay 25, 2021

Y’all were really nice about Dad passing.  Thanks again for all the good wishes.  Normally I would have been doing more of a day-by-day report up on Deer and Deer Hunting.  Now, here it is, Thanksgiving, and I’ve hardly written a thing.  Sadly, there has not been much to write. … Continue reading →

Weather Heebie-Jeebies 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on November 7, 2011 by shamanAugust 3, 2021

I do this every year.  I know it’s neurotic.  I can’t help it.   It gets down to Halloween and I start seriously thinking about the Rifle Opener, second weekend in November. Next I begin to wonder about how the weather will be.  Usually it’s in the low thirties and partly … Continue reading →

As the old dog returneth. . . 5 (1)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on September 5, 2011 by shamanJuly 29, 2021

As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly. Proverbs 26:11   Yeah, that is me.  In fact I put a reference to that in my loading notebook as I was cooking up this load.   While I was there, I did a quick review of … Continue reading →

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on May 26, 2011 by shamanAugust 6, 2021

I was over at the KDFWR site and saw the proposed dates for this coming year’s seasons. Something deep inside welled up and I knew I had to start counting the days to the Opener. Look in the right hand corner of the screen. KY Modern Weapons Season for Deer … Continue reading →

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on May 22, 2011 by shamanApril 23, 2021

Saturday Afternoon: This is the first weekend that I’ve been down at camp since the end of turkey season. We had to skip last week, because Angus had a bagpiping competition (BTW: He won) So this was the first chance I had to do anything related to deer in any … Continue reading →

Turkey Camp Wrapping it up 5 (1)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on May 10, 2011 by shamanApril 22, 2021

Season ended Sunday. After a cursory effort to close up camp, Angus and I cleared out for home. I could get philisophical here. I could try and relate all this to a bigger picture, but I won’t. This season was grueling. It beat us down. We were lucky to get … Continue reading →

Report from Turkey Camp — Yeah, Right. 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on April 25, 2011 by shamanAugust 6, 2021

It is the second Monday morning of KY’s Spring Gobbler Season, and I am sitting here with that “did-anyone-get-the-license-plate” kind of feeling. For the first time in a week, I have my voice back. Yesterday was the first time that the trip between bed and my chair in the family … Continue reading →

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on April 17, 2011 by shamanApril 28, 2021

Angus and I went out this morning to hit the Honey Hole again. SuperCore went back to the Jagendehutte. About 0815 a gobbler came up to the blind and due to the steep contours, he was invisible until he got within 10 yards. Angus saw a head pop up out … Continue reading →

Know Thy Game, Know Thyself 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on February 17, 2011 by shamanFebruary 17, 2022

Everyone goes at turkey hunting a little different. One guy wants to take a gobbler only if he has called it into him. Another guy only wants to do it with his grand-daddy’s side by side. Another fellow only feels right if he’s spent $500 on ammunition and is wearing the latest camo pattern– vest and boots matching. Another guy only wants to saddle up his bird and ride it back to camp singing “John Brown’s Body.” We all look at this sport differently.

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on January 1, 2011 by shamanAugust 5, 2021

After he got up he got a good look at me and decided the dog was the least of his worries. In a slow-motion tentative sort of way, he took a couple of bounds, stood a moment to regard us, and then punched the throttle and took off down the hollow.

Johnny Clay is in big trouble stemming from a 2009 deer he claimed as the #1 bowkill in Kentucky.  The problem is that it now seems likely it was poached with a rifle in Ohio.  Oooops. This guy is from just upriver from us in Adams County, Ohio.  As I … Continue reading →

Genesis 9:2-4

2 The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every bird of the air, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea; into your hand they are delivered. 3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you; and as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything. 4 Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.
