Report from Turkey Camp — Yeah, Right.
It is the second Monday morning of KY’s Spring Gobbler Season, and I am sitting here with that “did-anyone-get-the-license-plate” kind of feeling. For the first time in a week, I have my voice back. Yesterday was the first time that the trip between bed and my chair in the family room didn’t require planning. The doc saw me on Thursday and did not say exactly what it was, but threw me some Zithromax and told me to call if it got worse.
I knew it was probably going to be ugly when I drove back from the farm, but I didn’t think it was going to be like this. It really came on while I was hunting Monday flydown, and it kind of went downhill from there. Mostly it was just coughing, and feeling weak and tired. Sorry, if I didn’t write. Frankly, I’m still scratching my head trying to remember Tuesday and Wednesday.
As much as I dislike the idea of losing a week’s hunting, I have to admit this was one of the most miss-able weeks of hunting I’ve ever seen. The weather, save Thursday, has been some of the most putrid weather for turkey hunting I have ever come across. Most mornings, I’ve been watching the sunrise from bed waiting for the Ibu-Profen to kick in and felt lucky I didn’t have to be out in it.
SuperCore’s called a couple of times to check on me. He had the idea season closed on Sunday and I brightened his day when I croaked that we still had to next weekend.
Anyhow. I just wanted to let y’all know I’m still alive.
Write soon. Write often.
