Screwed by the NWS
Really, you can’t blame them. The National Weather Service is doing the best it can with its long-range forecasting. However, if you look at what they were thinking the KY Rifle Opener was going to be as late as early October and what the forecast is now, you got to scratch your head.
Here’s what they had back in July:
Here’s what it’s looking like now:
Yikes! That’s a big change! In truth, this is one of those years where the Farmer’s Almanac seems to have scooped the NWS. The Alamanac predicted a major shift in late October to mid-November with multiple bouts of snow. Guess what we have coming next week.
Bundle up, guys! If you thought last year was miserable. . . BOHICA!
The weather forecasts for the first week of Rifle Season are looking cold and bleak. You’ve got to dig down in the details. First off, you’ve got cold weather coming in. Opening Weekend is not really bad. In fact the Friday overnight low has gone up 7F from what was predicted on Sunday. Here in the Trans-Bluegrass, we may see 25F. Overnight Monday, it’s due to hit 17F. There are going to be several days lasting past mid-week where the temp will not break 40F.
If you dig around in the details, you will see several mornings where, if it is not bitter cold, we can expect rain and 33F– my absolute least favorite circumstance. There are an unprecedented number of snow events coming– Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday. None of this will stick and at least it won’t be raining if it snows.
