If you scroll to the bottom, you’ll get into the serious hunting stuff.
It’s not like a crawled in a hole at the end of turkey season. A couple of y’all have e-mailed me wondering where I’ve been. You have to remember that being a father is not all about sitting in a buddy stand or trying to find a good 20 GA turkey load.
Sometimes it’s watching your kid and his bagpipe band take home all the marbles at the 2009 Glasgow Highland Games. Angus is only 11, but he managed to walk away with a 1st place in the 2/4 march. His band, the Cincinnati Caledonian Pipe and Drum got a 1st place finish for Grade 5 bands, best pipe section, best drum section, and a bunch of other honors.
Sometimes it’s watching your oldest son, graduate from high school.
William’s kind of had a time of it. He’s had a bunch of diagnoses. Probably the best way to describe him is that he is a high-functioning autistic. Any way you cut it, he’s not the kind of guy you’d expect to have the whole CINTAS Center erupt when his named was called to get his diploma. You’d also not expect to hear the chearing just keep going and going. I don’t know what life has in store for William, but I’m sure now he was a success in high school.
. . . but back to hunting.
Memorial Day Weekend, I was sitting out on the front porch on Sunday when the guy who does my hay stopped by and picked up a few bales. When he was done, he asked, “Where do you want your food plots?”
Yikes! It was looking like rain. We had to run to Falmouth for seed before the store closed at 4 PM. Then hussle on back and work between the drops to get the two new plots planted. The plot nearest a pond got punkins, squash, sunflowers, carrots, turnips and birdseed mix. The farthest plot got wheat, and they both got lots of ladino clover and crimson red clover.
