Angus, SuperCore Score Bucks
Angus and Moose braved the 18F and went out to Midway this morning. They had just settled in when Angus noticed a doe running across the south field, behind the Garden of Stone. An 8-point buck was following close behind.
Angus shot. The buck gave no indication of being hit. Angus shot again, and the buck took off into the weeds. It was 0710 . Legal hunting began at 0651. Moose called back on the radio.
I had decided to sleep in. I’d been up at 0430 and decided it was too cold to risk it. I’m still not up to full speed yet. Moose roused me from a nap deep beneath the covers. I caught sight of the sun just peaking out from the next ridge as I was throwing on my boots.
The buck had run about 30 yards into the woods above Left Leg Creek before piling up. Moose and Angus had the buck already back out to the pasture by the time I showed up with the truck. Both shots had hit the boiler room. There was not recognizable in the chest. The buck went 156 lbs live weight.
At 0900 we had just gotten Angus and his buck out to the pole, and I had retired to the cabin to grab a cup of coffee when we heard the first shot coming the Jagendehutte. This was quickly followed by a second shot. By the time we all got to the window, SuperCore was already exiting the blind. mounting his ATV, and rushing down the hill to Dead Skunk Hollow. Moose and I hopped in the truck and rode out. When we got to the brow of the hill, we could see nothing.
After a small amount of cruising, we found the ATV parked by Broken Corners. Moose got out and started calling. We found SuperCore down in the woods about 20 yards. In his hurry, he’d left his rifle at the blind. Moose and I drove back to the blind and retrieved his Wetherby Vanguard. SuperCore had located the buck, standing in the brush with a round through him. By this time, Angus had come running out. It took a couple of finishers before the buck gave up. Despite being only a spike the buck weighed 140 lbs live weight.
