Deer Season Post-Mortem, 2017 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on November 23, 2017 by shamanDecember 1, 2025

Now that everyone is home safe a-bed, I thought I would go through the season and give you all my impressions of why it went so well, and what worked and what did not.  Overall, this was the most spectacular deer camp we’ve had.  Everyone got their buck. Everyone got  … Continue reading →

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on November 21, 2017 by shamanJuly 24, 2020 2

With 6 days left of season, SuperCore ended the 2017 with a shot on a doe in The Garden of Stone. I had slept in and was just drinking my coffee as I heard the shot back at camp, and started getting dressed for the trip out when the walkie-talkie … Continue reading →

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on October 23, 2017 by shamanApril 23, 2021 2

The Kentucky Early Primitive Weapons Season 2017 is in the can. No deer were harmed in the making of this weekend. However, we all seemed to have a good time. I left straight from work and missed the traffic. Both Angus and SuperCore left a bit later on Friday night and … Continue reading →

The Mauser from Hell 3.5 (2)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on October 15, 2017 by shamanFebruary 26, 2023 1

Strap in, guys. This is a long and bumpy ride down the bunny hole of rifle loony-ism. It all started back in 2013. SuperCore was cleaning out his gun safes and I picked up his K98 Mauser in 8X57. He’d been having trouble getting it to shoot. He’d taken it … Continue reading →

First Looks at the LHR Redemption 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on September 25, 2017 by shamanMarch 24, 2021

I know. This is about 5 years too late. However, a good fellow at 24hourcampfire.com saw I was asking about the Thompson Center Strike and offered me a NIB LHR Redeption at a remarkable discount. It was too good of an offer to let it go by. Just so you … Continue reading →

Ladder Stand Renovations 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on August 28, 2017 by shamanJuly 28, 2021

The treestands at camp are in need of some long-overdue PM.   Virginia is getting downright unsafe. Campground had a cracked weld.  The rest are just showing the ravaged of time and rust.  The last time I set one of these Hunters View Buddy Stands into a tree, George W. Bush … Continue reading →

Going Progressive — A final assessment 5 (4)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on August 24, 2017 by shamanMarch 23, 2022

I just finished up my last major session with the Hornady Lock n Load Auto-Progressive before turning to my deer hunting loads. I thought I would give y’all an update. My goal over the summer was to start with 9mm to get my feet wet, switch to 357 Magnum and … Continue reading →

Getting Ready for Season 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on July 4, 2017 by shamanAugust 6, 2021

Here it is, 4th of July weekend. I’ve got less than 19 weeks until the Rifle Opener here in KY. I am starting to make a list of what needs to be done. First off, the time to establish a new salt lick for the year is probably over. I … Continue reading →

What’s the Best Factory Ammo? 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on June 19, 2017 by shamanMarch 11, 2020

Just a while back there was fellow asking me about ammunition for his deer rifle. “What’s the best factory load?” he asked. “For me,” I replied, “I’d say it was the 30-06 180 grain Musgrave round noses.” “I’ve never heard of Musgrave!” he said. “You probably wouldn’t.” I replied. “A … Continue reading →

A Quick Update on the Press 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on June 16, 2017 by shamanAugust 6, 2021

First off, I want to let you know I have a growing admiration for the Hornady LNL Auto Progressive press. The naysayers complaints just have not panned out. Based on others’ comparisons to the Dillon 650, about the worst thing I can say about it, in my experience, is that … Continue reading →

Going Progressive– A new Bench and Press 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on May 28, 2017 by shamanJune 22, 2021 1

Just before Turkey Season, I was shooting 9mm with Angus and the thought occurred to me that 9mm was a lot of fun, and it was a shame it took so much effort to load up a measly 50 rounds with my single stage press. That triggered a line of … Continue reading →

One Month to Go 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on March 18, 2017 by shamanAugust 5, 2021 1

The Countdown Timer on my webpage will cross the 4-week threshold as I write this– 1 month to go before Spring Gobbler Season opens. Normally, I would be down at camp, scouting. Hopefully I would have the umbrella mic up and be recording some hens. I’m not. I’m also not fretting too much. SuperCore’s birthday party is tomorrow, and between the inclement weather and the logistics of coming back to town for the party, I decided to stay back in town.

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on January 31, 2017 by shamanAugust 5, 2021

It’s coming up on 10 weeks to the start of Kentucky’s Spring Gobbler Season. What am I doing to get ready? About a month ago, right around New Years, I went down and checked my supply of turkey ammo. I shoot Federal 3-inch #4 lead. It is not the rarest … Continue reading →

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on November 14, 2016 by shamanNovember 21, 2022 1

I only write this to mark the passing of KY’s Early Muzzleloader Season. It’s over; that is about all you need to know. All in all, it was not as lousy as it could have been. It was not the hottest, although we had temperatures in the mid-80’s. It was … Continue reading →

We’ve been at our place since September 2001. The World Trade Center was still smouldering. I had not bagged a Groundhog in well over 5 years. Y’all have to remember that I was close to giving up in those days. I’d lost every one of my good hunting spots. There … Continue reading →

I just watched the countdown timer cross the 8-week mark. It’s now exactly 2 months to the start of Kentucky’s Modern Weapons Season.  I stayed home from the farm overnight. Wringing out the Ruger American Predator 5 (1)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on July 16, 2016 by shamanAugust 6, 2021

I was out shooting with my new Ruger American Predator in 223 REM. Overall, I impressed with a lot of things. There are a few flaws, but they are minor. I am also very happy with the Bushnell Banner 6-24X40mm scope I mounted on it. My only beef is that … Continue reading →

Turkey Season 2016 Post-Mortem 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on May 13, 2016 by shamanDecember 1, 2025

Genesis 9:2-4

2 The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every bird of the air, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea; into your hand they are delivered. 3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you; and as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything. 4 Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.
