A Mooselette Comes to Deer Camp
Deer Camp opened this year with a new addition. Mooselette turned 6 this year. She has been out with Daddy Moose and myself to hike and hunt squirrel. However, yesterday afternoon marked the first time our youngest camper has officially donned the Orange and gone afield.
This day has been 7 years in the making, as you may recall:
You can see this project was anticipated all the way back to near the beginning.
Mooselette had a good time out at Hollywood. It was cut short by a severe wind event that drove us in early. By early evening we were taking 40 MPH gusts. The neighbors had planned a hay ride and campfire. That all had to be cancelled.
Outside of the wind storm and Mooselette’s introduction to life at Deer Camp, the weekend was fairly uneventful. Muzzleloader Season came and went without the harming of any cervids. Saturday, I had two doe come in and circle the stand at Campground. They were there long before it was light enough to see them, but I heard them munching acorns close by in the dark.
SuperCore saw a nice six pointer, but figured he would see better later in the season. Angus saw a herd of turkeys.
On Sunday, Angus got outwitted in the Hundred Acre Wood by a doe that came up to see what was wearing such an ugly orange ensemble. She caught him on his blind side. SuperCore saw some doe on their way to Dead Skunk Hollow. I had one doe that came up behind me at Hollywood and another that stayed in the woods about 0800. By 0945 we had all adjourned back to camp.

Our muzzleloader season was very uneventful. I only saw one deer all weekend, and Dad didn’t see any. We have plenty of pictures on our trail cameras though, so that made it even more disappointing.
