What’s a Good Scope? 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on June 13, 2022 by shamanJune 15, 2023

Every year I get asked what’s a good deer rifle. I’ve been writing deer rifle recommendations for close on to two decades. Rather than beat that horse again, I want to discuss the scope. Honestly, I am by no means an expert on rifle scopes. However, I’ve been dealing with … Continue reading →

Progress Report 5 (1)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on June 2, 2022 by shamanJune 2, 2022

I figure now would be a good time to let y’all know how it’s going. I did not want you to be thinking I was all curled up in a ball somewhere with tubes coming out of me in all directions. The truth is, I’m feeling pretty darn good approaching … Continue reading →

Powder Coating for Dummies 5 (2)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on May 23, 2022 by shamanJanuary 9, 2025

From E-Mail (name withheld on request) Oh, High and Lofty Shaman! . . . I notice you have several pictures on your site of rounds loaded with green-colored bullets. I take it you do powder-coating. How does that work? I see all over, but it all looks way too complicated … Continue reading →

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on May 13, 2022 by shamanMay 20, 2023 1

Have you ever had a hard time getting a chambering out of your head? Let me tell you my story. See if this sounds familiar. Let’s start back to 30 or so years ago. Back then, I was only deer hunting with 30-06 in Kentucky and 12 Gauge slug in … Continue reading →

PODCAST: The Virginia Rambler Goes Down 4.7 (3)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on April 22, 2022 by shamanApril 23, 2022

This did not take a whole lot of editing, but it turned out pretty well. I was out earlier today in the fog and managed to bring a gobbler in and close the deal. Some quick notes. First off, the extraneous pops and cracks is water dripping off the trees. … Continue reading →

The Shaman Nails a Gob 5 (8)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on April 22, 2022 by shamanFebruary 23, 2026 2

I had to call it quits last weekend. The trip out and back to the Honey Hole aggravated the leg, which had been the reason I spent the early part of last week in the ICU. I did not mind it much. Sunday thru Wednesday was cold or rainy– or … Continue reading →

Bess Gets Her Cherry Popped 5 (1)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on April 8, 2022 by shamanApril 8, 2022

Saturday AM, I finally had everything assembled to get my first shot off with my Pedersoli Brown Bess. Things went off without a major hitch. I even managed to dig up some FFG Goex that I purchased in 1986 to use in the inaugural shot. The powder worked like it … Continue reading →

More on Bess’ Balls 5 (2)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on March 15, 2022 by shamanMarch 16, 2022 1

The first attempt to cast balls for the Brown Bess ended with mixed results. The Lee .69 cal mold cast perfect balls for what would be standard paper cartridges, but that assumes that the shooter would be jamming multiple rounds down the barrel without any cleaning. For precision shots, I … Continue reading →

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on March 6, 2022 by shamanMarch 7, 2022

Requiem for a Turkey Load I really cannot remember the last time I blew my wad at paper. It must have been ten years ago. I’ve been shooting pretty much the same load at turkeys since 1996, Federal Premium 3-inch 12 Gauge 2-ounce #4. The boxes have changed. The load … Continue reading →

Brown Bess Cometh 5 (4)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on January 23, 2022 by shamanMarch 23, 2022 1

The tale starts way back. I had shot a Brown Bess once; it was decades ago. At some point in the deep past I read an account of a fellow in the modern-day using one as a general-purpose hunting weapon. It was one of those back-burner deals. I figured that … Continue reading →

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on January 2, 2022 by shamanMarch 23, 2022

With all the hoo-haw last summer, I got way behind in my projects. One of the first left to do was constructing some storage bins for the Shamanic Secret Underground Reloading Facility (SSURF). Indiana DNR Rule Changes 0 (0)

Genesis9:2-4 Ministries Posted on March 10, 2021 by shamanMarch 10, 2021

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has changed the rules a wee bit.  Turkey hunters can now use .410 shotguns, and can use smaller shot.  Deer hunters  can now use breechloading muzzleloaders (there’s an oxymoron)  like the Traditions Nitro system. Picking your Turkey Load Back in the Day 0 (0)

I know I’ve told this story before, but it bears repeating. Back when I started turkey hunting– we’re talking Regan’s first term– A good turkey gun was any gun that could put 2 pellets through a Dixie cup at 40 yards. You put a Dixie cup on a stake and … Continue reading →

In case you are not from Cincinnati, let me clue you in on Goetta. It is a German-inspired breakfast dish. Cincinnati and its general vicinity were settled by Germans in the early 19th Century. If you were to ask a modern German, they would have no clue what Goetta is. … Continue reading →

Genesis 9:2-4

2 The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every bird of the air, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea; into your hand they are delivered. 3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you; and as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything. 4 Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.
