More Progress
Mind you, I still consider myself the luckiest guy out there. It was just by chance they measured my HCG Turmor Marker back in early April and found the cancer was back. I had my third round of Chemo in the bag for Father’s Day– roughly about the date I would have normally had that test run due to a regular check-up. The cancer is dead–no worries there. As to the rest of what I’m about to tell you, this is kind of what a guy is in for when they sign up to be poisoned with chemicals.
I went home Friday, 6/17 from my 3rd round of Chemo, and the wheels promptly fell off. I started getting weak and dizzy. Just getting to the head and back was an adventure. That next Tuesday I was getting delirious and had to call 911. The meat wagon transported me to the ER and I spent the next week flat on my back. The Chemo had coincided with the onset of COVID, and stressed my system so badly that it had brought on a small heart attack– nothing to worry about. I was sequestered due to COVID protocol, so nobody could come and see me. That was not a big problem; KYHillChick caught the COVID too. Having me out of the way let her convalesce in peace.
While I was in, they had to keep giving me platelets and whole blood. The chemo had made all sorts of havoc with my blood counts. My kidneys weren’t doing so hot either. As I said, the wheels were falling off. However, eventually, I as able to come home. I left the hospital with only a nasty swelling at one of the IV sites and what felt like a bad hangover. I was feeling fairly fly the next week, but the soreness in my left forearm kept getting worse. Finally, over 4th of July weekend, I had to go back to the hospital to have that treated with IV antibiotics. This is what happens when you suppress a guy’s immunity with Chemo and then stick him with needles relentlessly.
I’m finally back out– got released late last night. I was due to start the last round of Chemo on 7/5, but that plan has been blown up. They will watch my blood counts and start the bug juice back up after they return to normal. My kidneys are showing signs of improvement. Nobody seems worried about the heart attack. I guess they were right about bed rest taking care of it.
When Rush Limbaugh was dying of cancer he made it clear he didn’t want to turn the program into the Rush Has Cancer Show. I know exactly what he meant. However, I figured you all needed to have a progress report. It may not seem like it, but the overall track of this adventure is still good. I still am committed to being in my stand for The Opener, in just a little over 18 weeks
I also want to commend KYHillChick, Moose and Angus for their assistance in all this. While ‘HillChick was coming up to retrieve me from the hospital, Moose and Angus cleaned the house and did the shopping. Moose has been down at the farm every week keeping the grass cut. He and Angus have kept up with chores better than I would have.
