PODCAST: Yute Hunt 2020
This should have been a triumphant announcement. Mooselette had shot her first gobbler. However, a worldwide pandemic interfered. It was just not to be. Okay, I can live with that. I went out alone this AM with the umbrella mic, ready to record some more stuff– hopefully enough for another podcast. For the second week in a row, a gobbler keyed on the mic and came running up. This time, a gobbler on his way to meet a hen calling off the property, came right by my set-up at the Honey Hole. You can hear him spitting and drumming right in front of the microphone– best-ever recording I’ve ever made of this. He was right behind me; most of the action happened where I dared not even breath let alone narrate. When I finally was able to turn around, he would have afforded me a perfect chip shot with the 12 Gauge. Mooselette would have had him for sure. There was more than one gobbler out. I think I counted eight at one point. After the first gob left, I had another come up the road rather close to me but faded off.

So this recording will have to stand as my consolation prize for the season. Between this weekend and last, I managed to get two gobblers into the mic and giving me easy shots. Sadly, I’ll not have a gun out this year, nor will I be able to call them. As you saw from the last post, the season is over for me. I’m back across the bridge. Kentucky will have to wait for another year. It is truly a bummer; this is the first season I’ve missed since 1986. Damn this virus.
I’ll be calling The Mooselette shortly to tell her about the gobbler she missed.
