Angus Reloads
Angus and I passed an important milestone today. This is the first time one of my grown sons has taken it upon himself to reload ammunition with his own components. They all came down to the bend to help Dad when they were small, but their interest has waned. Angus wanted loads for his AR, and wanted to learn how to do it all by himself.
It all started with a huddle at 1100 ET to figure out what exactly he wanted. We settled on a 223 REM load for his AR that would cycle the action, but not rattle his teeth or empty his wallet. The result after passing a bunch of articles, reloading manuals and a copy of Gun Gack I back and forth was that we’d settle on a 55 grain bullet over a midlin load of BL-C(2).
Off we went to Cabela’s. He had brass he had been picking up from previous trips to the bench. We walked away with a good deal on Hornady 55 grain FMJ-BT, some CCI Small Rifle Primers and a pound of BL-C(2).
We stopped at Bob’s place on the way home. Bob died back in February, and his widow is just now digging out the garage. His firearms just made it to Hibberd’s Armory in Cleves, so if you are looking for a collectible Ruger, give them a call. Esther wanted us to have Bob’s fireworks, but we also came away with a bunch of reloading supplies.Back home, we went to the Secret Underground Reloading Facility and worked in earnest. When we were done 2 hours later, Angus had 50 rounds of 223 Rem and his own entry in the reloading log. It all went as smoothe as could be– no lost primers and no crushed cases. The rounds are immaculate. I have to admit that he had expert training and supervision.
