Father’s Day Weekend, 2026
Moose, Mooselette and myself celebrated Father’s Day at the farm this weekend. It was my first time down since the bad storm over Wednesday night.
The construction didn’t suffer all that much. Some loose building materials got sent flying, but that was about it. Darron, the stone mason, was staying over in the garage. He said the 80 MPH gust made things sporty for a while. There were lines and limbs down on the road on my way in. Falmouth was still without power, but ours stayed up. Our biggest damage were limbs blocking some of our paths. Moose made short work of them with the tractor Friday afternoon. The ground was surprisingly dry and firm. I spent the morning mowing those foodplots that had surviving clover stands, namely Virginia, Hollywood, and Midway. It gives the clover an edge over the weeds, and it also causes the clover to push out new palatable growth.
Moose presented me with a new American Flag for the farm for Father’s Day. In the pic, you can see me messing with my 1858 Remington. It was my Christmas present from KYHillChick. This was the first time I’d had an opportunity to shoot it, but more on that later.
Daddy Moose taught Mooselette how to ride the ATV. She’s still only 14, and won’t be riding without supervision, for a year or so..
The highlight of the trip was sitting out on the new front porch, sipping coffee and watching the sunrise. I had deer munching in one of the freshly mowed plots as well as turkeys gnoshing is the new corn/sunflower plot out past the pond.
