Return to Turkey Camp
This is late for me to be writing this. I’ve had years where I made it back down in February. Normally it is the weather that holds me back. This time, it was KYHillChick. The Tuesday after the SuperBowl, she fell in the garage and split her kneecap. She also sprained her ankle on the same side. She’s been in bed ever since, and I’ve had to stay home and take care of her. This was the earliest I could get away.
For all the snow and ice and storms, not much had happened. The new pond behind the barn has filled. Nothing washed to badly over the winter. The contractor came out and picked up where he left off on the septic system yesterday afternoon. It should be ready for inspection by the end of the week. He is going to start on the interior of the garage this week.

The new pond Junnie dug for me behind the tobacco barn is nearly filled. Junnie drove over yesterday morning on his loader and started digging out two large rockpiles out near Blackberry and bringing the stone back to the house. I took a picture of the first scoop. The pile was much bigger by the time I left to go home. The fieldstone will be used for the two big fireplaces in the great room. I contacted the stone mason to tell him the news. He said he is itching to start.

Wednesday afternoon, I met with the architect and went over the first round of plans. It is all starting to shape up nicely.
Coming back to camp after 3 months, there’s always something. When I started to fill the water system a hose popped off inside the cistern. It took a good long time to get it back on, but I had everything back running by the time I left for home.
Oh yeah! I almost forgot: While I was drinking my coffee out at The Thoughtful Spot, I heard a flock of hens going off just before sunrise, just at the top of Hootin’ Holler. They were shortly joined by an amorous gobbler and I had quite a concert. I hope to be down again soon with enough time to go out and do a podcast.
