Turkey 2021: Third Weekend
Weekend #3 came and went with no gobblers to show for it. Mooselette, Moose and Angus came out.
Action was remarkably heavy, at least on the west side of the farm. Moose was over at the Westwood blind and managed to call up two gobblers out of Right Leg Creek. Then these were joined by another pair who appeared from Blackberry, having crossed the pasture from the east side of the farm. The two pairs fought each other just out of gun range.
Moose eventually made it back to camp. My guess is that he had his box call bumping on his hip a little, because shortly after he returned, the gobblers showed up again, this time at the farm house. He got suited back up and went out into the back yard, but  couldn’t get a shot.Â
I came out early on Saturday so that I could get out to the mower shop in Chatham before it closed. The Cub Cadet had needed serious work. On the way back, one of the tires on the trailer blew out. That made for an exciting trip. I finally got the lawn mowed Saturday afternoon and then went for a ride around with Mooselette.Â
Sunday AM, Mooselette and I got out and did some real turkey hunting together. The gobblers were not all that active, but we had fun. We spent flydown at the Honey Hole and then stopped at the mouth of Virginia on the way back and spent an hour or so hanging out, calling, and generally having a good time.
Mooselette melted my heart. First, she told me that she figured I was the coolest dude at turkey camp, and then she said that turkey hunting with her Grandpa was the best thing in the world. I told her that was probably the nicest thing anyone had ever said to me, and I meant it.
