If You Encounter a Mountain Lion — 4 Comments

  1. Yeah, it’s an even better idea when you can use somebody else’s kids– some noisy little ankle biter that’s been running amok in the campground.

We had a painter fairly close to the farm over last winter, and there’s been a bunch of bear sightings too. Last weekend the coyotes were camped out right by our front doorstep– woke us up at 4 AM with a chorus.

Them woods is getting dangerous, Pook. (Of course I’m still the most dangerous demon there.)

Give us a call. You and Anami need to come back out for visit.

    We miss you greatly.

  2. Recently had a experience with a mountain lion. My hunting partner killed a doe and the “hanging tree” which is across the two track where I park my truck to walk the 150 yards to my stand in the dark, is where we cleaned and quartered it leaving the hide, a ruined shoulder (180 gr. Remington CL from 30-06) and rib cage. The next morning as I got out of my truck I noticed the rib cage wasn’t visible but thinking it was taken by coyotes just walked to my stand. Didn’t shoot anything and around 10 am went back to the truck, put my rifle in ti and went to investigate the gut pile. A mountain lion had carefully covered the hide, guts and ribcage with grass by standing over the three separate things and reachig as far as it could and clawing broomgrass over them. Length from rear feet to as far as the lion had reaches was 6 feet and the claw marks in the short under grass were impressive. This is in Throckmorton county Texas. This may explain my dog furring up and acting nervous as I leave her in the truck while I sit in the stand. She is a Catahoula Cur and virtually nothing scares her. Hope the cat got it’s meal and moves on because I am still going to travel in the dark to my stand regardless.

  3. Yikes! I’m just as happy that I don’t have predators like that around our deer camp.

BTW: Now that Mooselette (Honorable #1 Granddaughter) is reading, she’s calling me out on this sign at deer camp.

No wonder grandpa likes to take his granddaughter out hunting!!!
